BTS’ Longtime History With The Grammys

The Grammys are one of the most prestigious award ceremonies, annually celebrating outstanding achievements in the music industry. For the past four ceremonies, BTS has been invited as performers and presenters for the show, with notable past performances such as ‘Old Town Road’ alongside Lil Nas X and other guest stars in 2020 and their hit song ‘Dynamite’ in 2021.   However, fans were ecstatic when BTS became the first K-Pop act ever to be nominated for a grammy. They have been nominated twice in the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” category - nominated the previous year for ‘Dynamite’ and this year for their chart-topping single ‘Butter.’ BTS themselves even posted on their YouTube a very heartwarming reaction to their nomination.   This nomination means a lot for BTS, their fans and K-Pop itself as a genre. BTS being nominated twice represents the rising popularity and newfound positive reception of the genre in  Western media. K-Pop is not being viewed as “otherly” but is cementing its place as a fully-fledged music genre deserving of respect and recognition. Although they did not win the award last year and this time around, the group still applauded Doja Cat and SZA who won for their collaboration on ‘Kiss Me More.’ ARMYs were saddened to see the group not walk away with any awards but seeing a K-Pop group like BTS being nominated twice by an esteemed awards show is still a monumental achievement in itself. Hopefully, the group will be able to walk away with a Grammy win next year.

BTS Giving Glamour On The Red Carpet

With any award show comes a fabulous red carpet where A-list celebrities walk down wearing fashionable and high-glamour looks. BTS did not disappoint, giving us impeccable looks like they always do at every awards show.

— Variety (@Variety) April 3, 2022 All of the members strutted down the Grammys red carpet in style while sporting custom Louis Vuitton suits, for which they are the brand ambassadors. These minimalistic suits are tailored to perfection and vary in colours and shades. Suga and J-Hope are in white suits with embroidery, Jin is in a tan one with blue accents; RM and V are matching in brown suits with a purple shirt while Jimin and JungKook are both wearing dark blue. They all look incredible but if we had to pick a highlight, we love the looser fit of JungKook’s blue suit and trousers and the added floral boutonniere on V’s suit. BTS has gone through a style evolution throughout their long careers and it’s great to see the group experiment with silhouette and colour rather than opt for typical black-and-white suits.

— BTS Quotes Archive⁷ (@btsqtsarchive) April 3, 2022 Another thing to remember is that these menswear suits were actually inspired by the brand’s Fall 2022 collection designed by the late and great Louis Vuitton menswear artistic director Virgil Abloh. This adds additional sentimentality to an amazing ensemble look. These boys are proving once again that they are one of the best-dressed boy groups of all time.

A New Twist On ‘Butter’

ARMYs were eagerly watching from the comforts of their own homes, anticipating BTS’ performance of their Grammy-nominated song ‘Butter.’ Nobody could have expected the charismatic and fresh take on the Summer smash hit of 2021. This performance took a unique spin, channelling classic spy movies like the “James Bond” and “Mission Impossible” franchises. Those motifs are present throughout the whole act. The performance starts with Jin manning a secret spy control room while JungKook literally flies down holding a rope. There is arguably nothing more impressive than that. Next in this intro, we see V sharing secret information with a famous celebrity (we’ll get to that later). Then, the song starts and we see all the members in sleek black suits. ‘Butter’ is an earworm of a song so everyone right from the start could not help but sing along to the catchy chorus. The members’ dancing and singing unsurprisingly remain on-point throughout the whole song. We must give a shoutout to Jin, who was seated for most of the performance due to the cast on his arm but still performed with his effervescent charms. We see a few changes in the composition and a new dance break, creating a sense of grandeur for the song. The song reaches a climax and ends on such a high note, full of backup dancers while the BTS members are front and center. This performance was straight-up electrifying in energy and sheer stage presence. BTS truly brought the house down on the Grammys stage, rightfully receiving a standing ovation from the crowd.

Tons of Interactions Between Celebrities

It has become so common at this point for every celebrity who meets BTS to take a photo with them. Who can really blame them though? I too would want a photo if I met the biggest boy group in the world. At this year’s Grammys, we saw a ton of celebrities such as Megan Thee Stallion (who guest featured on a ‘Butter’ remix), John Legend, Chrissy Teigan, Lady Gaga and countless others interact with the boys that night.

— BTS Pics⁷ (@btspiics1) April 4, 2022 Remember the celebrity we previously mentioned V whispered to during the ‘Butter’ performance intro? That was none other than young pop starlet and now three-time Grammy winner Olivia Rodrigo.

— Variety (@Variety) April 4, 2022 It’s safe to say almost every celebrity in the world is now part of the BTS fandom and further proof the Grammys need BTS, not the other way around.

Fan Reactions

During and after the show, ARMY’s took to social media to share their thoughts and they are hilarious, to say the least.

Only The Beginning

Performing at the 2022 Grammys is only the beginning of a very busy year for BTS. The group is slated to perform in Las Vegas for four nights as part of their “PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE” tour and is in the midst of producing more music. While fans wait for another comeback, we can sit back and remember all the iconic moments BTS made at this year’s Grammys.   Boy Crush: BTS’ J-Hope Is More Than Just Our ‘Hope’, He’s The Ultimate Crush Too KPOP STORIES|Apr 4, 2022 “Grammys” Stage Next?
